The art of boatbuilding has long been an essential craft in Oman. In spite of the lack of adequate boat-building timber, for millennia Omani shipwrights have been building many of the vessels that sailed along the coasts of Oman and the Indian Ocean. These ships were created until very recently using very traditional tools and techniques, many with deep roots in the past.
